LITTLE VILLAGE — The Chicago Park District is offering free sports for the whole family at La Villita Park in Little Village every weekend this summer.
The move comes as part of an anti-violence initiative Mayor Rahm Emanuel launched earlier this month.
"No other park in the city of Chicago is going to have this amount of activities," the mayor told dozens of families gathered at the park, 2800 S. Sacramento Ave., on July 9. "We want to prove that when you actually have all these activities, crime goes down, kids are safer. And then we can take it all over the city of Chicago."
The schedule includes:
Teen Softball League
5-9 p.m. every Thursday (teens)
Three-on-Three Basketball
4:30-6:30 p.m. every Friday (children ages 12 and younger)
6:30-8:30 p.m. every Friday (teens)
Youth Soccer League
4:30-6:30 p.m. every Saturday (children ages 12 and younger)
6:30-8:30 p.m. every Saturday (teens)
