CHICAGO —Will it rain after work? Maybe. But with rain always looming lately, it's not worth canceling your plans. Here are some outdoor options.
1. Bird Watching on the Big Screen at North Park Village Nature Center: In a match made in Movies in the Parks heaven, "The Big Year," all about a fictional bird-watching competition, will screen at North Park Village Nature Center. The Jack Black-Steve Martin-Owen Wilson vehicle will screen at 8:30 p.m. North Park Village Nature Center, 5801 N. Pulaski Rd., Free.
2. Hang With Johnny Depp in Millennium Park: Looming storm clouds could be the perfect backdrop for "Edward Scissorhands" and its epic Danny Elfman soundtrack. The movie that made many of us fall in love with Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder in 1990 screens on a 40-foot LED screen at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, 201 E. Randolph St. Starts at 6:30 p.m. Free.
3. Cool Off at Chase Park’s Pool: Open until 7 p.m., the six-lane outdoor pool at Chase Park offers some relief from the extreme humidity we’ve been getting. Plus, you don’t have to bring your own lawn chair or worry about pesky sand like you would at the beach. Chase Park pool, 4701 N. Ashland Ave., open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Free.
4. Carve Out an Hour for Your Health: Scheduled for every Tuesday on the softball field near Wicker Park's Schiller Street entrance, a weekly “Yoga in the Park” session will stretch you out after a long day of sitting at a desk. Bring a mat, water bottle and wear comfortable shoes to the class, led by a rotating pool of instructors from area yoga studios. Wicker Park, 1425 N. Damen Ave., 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Free.
5. Eat a Balkan Burger, Listen to Live Jazz: Tonight’s “Tuesdays at the Triangle” at the CTA Blue Line Division “L” stop brings the Michael Melis Trio featuring trumpeter Chris Lawrence. The group will be performing original jazz compositions. Food truck Ćevapčići Chicago, which serves up a tasty Balkan burger over a pita, along with sausages, will be parked at the curb while Sweet Cakes Bakery will sell pastries at a pop-up stand. The Polish Triangle, Ashland, Division and Milwaukee intersection from 6 to 8 p.m. Music is free, food is not.
