Six Dead, 25 Wounded in Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO — Shootings over the weekend left six people dead and 25 wounded across the city, police said.

Since Sunday morning, a 21-year-old man was killed in Little Village, a 19-year-old man was killed in South Chicago and eight people were wounded in shootings, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Three people were wounded in two separate shootings in Grand Crossing around 3:30 p.m., Estrada said.

• A 24-year-old man was shot in his left leg and a 15-year-old boy was shot in his right leg and back as they stood in the 7300 block of South Vernon Avenue. Both were taken to Christ Hospital. The boy was listed in critical condition and the 24-year-old man's condition has been stabilized, Estrada said.

• Around the same time, a 21-year-old man was shot in his left leg by someone in a light blue car as he stood in the 6900 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. He was taken to St. Bernard's Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Estrada said.

• Most recently, a 24-year-old man was shot in his left thigh when someone walked out of an alley in the 2400 block of North Luna Avenue and opened fire around midnight, Estrada said.

The man was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, Estrada said.

• Around 11:10 p.m., a 30-year-old man was shot in Humboldt Park.

• Around 10:40 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in his face and shoulders as he was walking in the 400 block of East 71st Street, police said. Someone opened fire from a dark-colored car and the car traveled westbound following the shooting, Estrada said.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, Estrada said.

• In Austin, around 10:10 p.m., a 17-year-old girl was shot in her leg when two people walked up to the group she was standing with and opened fire, Estrada said.

The girl was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, Estrada said.

• Around 9:15 p.m., a 15-year-old boy was shot while standing in the 3000 block of West 40th Place when two people yelled gang slogans and opened fire from a dark SUV in an alley, Estrada said.

The shooters fled eastbound. The boy was struck in his foot and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Estrada said.

No one is in custody for the shootings.

• On Saturday afternoon, a 22-year-old man, reported to be Chicago rapper Capo, a part of Chief Keef's Glo Gang crew, was shot to death in South Shore. Seven others were shot between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

• Between Friday night and Saturday, three people were killed and 10 were wounded in shootings. One man died and two others were seriously hurt after a shooting in South Austin early Saturday morning, a man died in Englewood after being shot while stopped at a red light around 2:15 a.m. Saturday and a 25-year-old man died after being found shot on a sidewalk in Grand Crossing Friday night.
