THE LOOP — A new sandwich chain is ready to serve the Downtown lunch crowd.

Firehouse Subs, which already operates stores downstate and throughout the suburbs, will open its first shop in the city Tuesday at 209 W. Jackson Blvd.

Founded by two former firefighters, the Jacksonville, Fla.-based sub shop features steamed sandwiches, more than 50 hot sauces, and custom art in each store. A mural in new The Loop shop will depict Catherine O'Leary and her notorious cow escaping the Great Chicago Fire on a rowboat.

The chain's foundation has also given $14 million supporting first responders throughout the country, and in May raised nearly $200,000 for local organizations including the Chicago Fire Department and Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.

The Loop store will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Check out Firehouse Subs' website for more information.
