Movies in the Park: Disney's 'Maleficent' Shown at Bartelme Park Tuesday

WEST LOOP — Feature flick "Maleficent" will be shown under the nighttime sky in the West Loop Tuesday night. 

The Disney movie, starring Angelina Jolie, will kick off at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mary Bartelme Park, 115 S. Sangamon St.

The live action movie reimagines Disney's 1959 animated film Sleeping Beauty, instead portraying the story from Maleficent's perspective.

When an invading army threatens the land, Maleficent rises up to become its fiercest protector. However, a terrible betrayal hardens her heart and leads her to curse the newborn princess, Aurora, only to discover that the child may be the one person who can restore peace to their troubled land, according to the movie's description.

"Maleficent," released in 2014, is rated PG and runs 97 minutes. The movie screening is free and open the the public.
