NEAR WEST SIDE — White Sox hitter Jose Abreu has launched a program, Abreu's Amigos, to help kids with special needs.

Abreu's Amigos will take kids with special needs on field trips to U.S. Cellular Field to talk with Abreu to help them develop social skills. The program is being launched in partnership with Easter Seals Metropolitan Chicago's Therapeutic School and Center for Autism Research. Abreu also donated $10,000 to Easter Seals Metropolitan Chicago.

"The Easter Seals' mission to create opportunities for children with special needs to live, learn and play is very important to me," Abreu said.

Abreu and teammates Emilio Bonifacio, Melky Cabrera and Alexei Ramirez participated in a baseball clinic at the school, 1939 W. 13th St.
