FULTON MARKET — Despite previously announcing plans to open this month, luxury retailer Billy Reid won't open until Sept. 1 in the West Loop, officials confirmed.

Permit delays have caused the designer to push back the store's opening, located at 845 W. Randolph St., by months, a company spokesman said Wednesday. Owners now hope to open the store by early September.

The split-level store, located between Indian restaurant Jaipur and Graham Elliot Bistro on Randolph, will take over the Andrews Paper Co. space.

Billy Reid, which sells men's and women's clothing, footwear and accessories, is headquartered in Alabama but has a dozen stores across the United States. The planned store in the rapidly changing Fulton Market district will be the brand's first in Chicago.

In addition to stand-alone stores, Billy Reid sells to luxury boutiques worldwide and online. The clothing designer emphasizes U.S. manufacturing and high-quality construction, according to the Billy Reid website.

Men's items for sale online include: $245 slim jeans hand-sewn in the U.S.; a $995 "slightly-deconstructed" navy wool jacket; and $425 olive tassel loafers handmade in Italy.

Women's clothing includes: a $1,595 cropped calfskin moto jacket; a $495 bandana-print cotton dress made in the U.S.; and an $88 white knit t-shirt.

Designer Billy Reid, a Louisiana native who was named "menswear designer of the year" in 2012 by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, launched the Billy Reid brand in 2004. He founded his men’s collection, William Reid, in 1998, and a women’s collection a few seasons later.
