NOBLE SQUARE — Pappanino's, a family-run pizzeria in suburban Westchester, quietly opened its second location over the weekend, replacing the shuttered Pizza Metro II outpost at the southeast corner of Walton and Ashland Avenues in Noble Square.

Mainly offering carryout and delivery, the eatery has four small tables for folks that want to dine in.

Pappanino's specialty are 24-inch-long "stadium-sized" pizzas, which cost $21 for a cheese pizza, with extra toppings $4.50 each.

Late Monday, owner Nick Mule said he had not received any orders yet for the stadium-sized pizzas.

"We are getting the word out, some neighbors know we are open from walking by, but that's it," Mule said.

In addition to pizza, available in five other pie sizes (10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 inches), Pappanino's offers sandwiches, such as Italian subs, plus pastas, soup and salads.

Other items on the menu, which is identical to the Westchester location, include steak and shrimp and chicken and rib pairings, available in half ($9.95) and full slabs ($15.95).

Most sides like fried dough and onion rings are under $4.50, while an order of French fries is $1.50.

For folks familiar with Pizza Metro II, the interior has been painted over and now features clean white walls and red and green stripes, the colors of Italy.

Mule, 52, came to Chicago from Italy in 1967. For several years, his family ran an outpost of Sorrento's Pizzeria at 5405 W. Diversey Ave., which closed after the building was sold to a developer, he said.

Pappanino's, 925 N. Ashland Ave. Hours are 4 - 11 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 4 p.m. - 12 a.m. Friday-Saturday; 5 - 10 p.m. Sunday. Ph: 773-360-8164.
