UNIVERSITY VILLAGE — A woman is dead after she fell from a staircase outside a building on the University of Illinois at Chicago campus early Friday, officials confirmed.

At about 4:30 a.m. Friday, UIC Police responded to a call at the Behavioral Sciences Building on campus, UIC officials confirmed. An initial investigation determined a 21-year-old woman had fallen from a cement staircase located on the outside of the building at 1007 W. Harrison St., according to Sherri McGinnis Gonzalez, UIC spokeswoman.

The woman fell two floors and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

There does not appear to be foul play involved, McGinnis Gonzalez said, but UIC Police continue to investigate the incident.

The woman was not a student and did not work at the university, UIC officials said.

The Chicago Medical Examiner's office confirmed the death, but wouldn't release additional information until the next of kin is notified.
