CHICAGO — A man shot by police and two others are facing charges after two armed robberies Friday, police said.

Terrence Hogan, 21, of the 4200 block of Ellis Avenue; Khalil Powell, 19, of the 5100 block of South Loomis Street; and Kamari Belmont, 21, 7100 block of South Champlain Avenue, were charged on Sunday, according to a police statement.

On Friday around 2 a.m. Hogan, Powell and Belmont robbed a 40-year-old man and a woman in the 3700 block of South Vincennes Avenue.

The man refused to comply and was shot in his leg and groin. He was taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition had stabilized, said Officer Stacey Cooper, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The second robbery occurred around 3:00 a..m. in the 00-100 block of East 21st Street. Officers were on patrol when they were flagged down by the victims of the second robbery, who gave officers a detailed description of the men and their car.

Police found the men in the car in the 500 block of West 43rd Street in Canaryville. As Hogan got out of the car, an officer noticed a handgun in his waistband. Hogan then charged at an officer, hitting him with his body and causing the officer's gun to go off, police said.

Police union spokesman Pat Camden said the suspect elbowed the officer in the chest as he was getting out of the car. The robber was shot in his chest and dropped his gun as he ran away, Camden said.

The other men were taken into custody without incident, police said.

Hogan is charged with attempted first-degree murder, two counts of armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated battery of a peace officer, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm, police said in a statement.

Powell and Belmont are both charged with two counts of armed robbery with a firearm, police said.
