NEAR WEST SIDE — After being hit by a car Tuesday morning, a 39-year-old man was stabbed and then robbed near Malcolm X College, police confirmed.

At about 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, a 39-year-old man was crossing the street in the 1800 block of Van Buren Street when he was struck by a black vehicle, causing him to drop his cell phone, said CPD spokesman Officer Thomas Sweeney. A man jumped out of the vehicle, and when the victim tried to retrieve his cell phone, the man stabbed him in the elbow, according to police.

The man then fled the scene with the victim's cell phone, Sweeney said.

The victim sustained a minor puncture wound and was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was treated for the minor injury.

Police do not have a description of the male suspect and continue to investigate the crime.
