CHICAGO — The handgun that an 8-year-old boy was playing with when he accidentally shot himself belonged to his mother's boyfriend, police said.

Jeffery Williams, 34, of the 1100 block of South Harding Ave., was charged with unlawful use of a weapon Saturday.

Williams, a convicted felon on parole, also faces chages of child endangerment, marijuana possession and violation of parole, according to police.

Police filed charges against the boy's mother, Micquelyn Biles, 31, of the 2700 block of West 13th Street, Thursday. Police said Biles denied knowing the handgun was in the apartment, but an investigation determined that she did know.

The boy, who shot himself in the abdomen Tuesday morning, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was listed in good condition.
