Mash, the Restaurant Formerly Known as Bad Dog, Opening Thursday

By Patty Wetli | March 31, 2015 3:26pm

LINCOLN SQUARE — The transformation of the former Bad Dog Tavern into Mash (Craft + Kitchen + Patio) is complete, with the new restaurant set to open to the public Thursday.

Back in February, Bad Dog's ownership group announced it was shuttering the bar and grill after seven years and would amp up its culinary game with Mash.

Folks can judge the results for themselves Thursday, when Mash opens its doors at 5 p.m., 4535 N. Lincoln Ave.

What can diners expect?

Co-owner Jim Ammirati previously told DNAinfo Chicago there wouldn't be a single holdover from Bad Dog. Instead, he said, the emphasis at Mash would be on house smoked meats, specialty burgers and a daily selection of fresh seafood.

Though the menu has yet to be posted online, Mash has tipped its hand plenty via social media, sharing images of poutine, pulled pork, lamb burgers, sardines and more.

On the beverage side, Mash has added 10 draft lines and will be pouring craft beers exclusively from its taps.

As part of its commitment to local brewers, Mash's opening weekend will feature Pantsless Pale Ale, the first-ever beer from Alarmist Brewing, which made its debut last weekend at Riverview Tavern (a sister-bar of Mash's).

Mash will host the launch party of Mikerphone Brewing's first two beers April 9.

Decor-wise, Mash is nearly unrecognizable from its Bad Dog days.

The bar top has been covered with copper and the walls are clad in wood planks. One wall even boasts an installation of moss.

The weekend schedule: open 5 p.m. Thursday; open 11:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday; closed Sunday. Kitchen open until midnight Thursday through Saturday.
