WEST LOOP — With Election Day less than two weeks away, a trifecta of Chicago musicians have pledged allegiance to mayoral challenger Jesus "Chuy" Garcia.

Rapper Rhymefest, Indian/reggae-influenced group Funkadesi and folk ensemble Sones de Mexico are set to perform at a Garcia fundraiser and rally Sunday at Alhambra Palace, 1240 W. Randolph St.

Tickets, which range from $25 to $100, are on sale now. Pre-sale tickets close Friday.

Shirley King, Billy Branch, El DJ Rebel X, the Janes, Jaime de Leon, Amisha Patel, TEAM Englewood and others are set to perform.

Sunday's event will also feature a silent art auction and a cash bar.

No stranger to politics, Grammy winning-rapper Che "Rhymefest" Smith ran for alderman in 2011 and hosted an election night party in the West Loop this February.

The rapper came in second in the municipal general election, forcing a runoff, only to be ultimately defeated by incumbent Ald. Willie Cochran, who held onto the seat with 55 percent of the vote.

After forcing a runoff, Garcia will face off against incumbent Mayor Rahm Emanuel on April 7. Poll results released this week show Emanuel leading Garcia in the race.

Garcia also held his general election night celebration at Alhambra in the West Loop in February.

But managers at the restaurant insist they aren't taking sides in the mayoral race, even despite the fact their building was singled out in a city document about a proposal to make a nearby area an historic district. The document said the Alhambra was an example of "what not to look like." The district is still under consideration.
