CHICAGO — Eleven shootings and two stabbings have been reported since Friday night during Chicago's first warm weekend, leaving three dead and others injured.
The most recent shooting occured at approximately 1:50 a.m. Sunday morning at the 6600 block of South Rhodes Avenue when a 44-year-old man who reported standing outside when he began to feel pain, according to police spokeswoman Officer Janel Sedevic. The man suffered a gunshot wound to his eye and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.
No one is currently in custody for the incident, and Area South detectives are investigating.
• Around 4:10 p.m. Saturday, a 40-year-old man was stabbed to death in the 2000 block of West 47th Street while standing outside with this girlfriend. According to police reports, the couple was approached by someone they knew, who brandished a knife and fatally stabbed the man, leaving the girlfriend unharmed.
The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A 39-year-old, who police say is the attacker, was taken into custody. As of Sunday morning, charges against were pending.
• At 7 p.m. Saturday a 25-year-old woman was shot in the head in the 1800 block of North Merrimac Avenue after she and several others sat in a vehicle, according to police. Another vehicle pulled up near the victim's and fired several shots in the direction of the victim's vehicle.
The woman was taken to Loyola University Medical Center, where her condition was stabilized. The incident is under investigation by Area North detectives and may be gang-related, according to police.
• Around 7:55 p.m., a 16-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to the knee in the 6100 block of South Kimbark Avenue in Woodlawn. According to police reports, the boy was standing outside when he was approached by another man who opened fire before fleeing.
The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. Area Central detectives are investigating.
• At 8:20 p.m. an 18-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the lower back in the 8400 block of South Sangamon Street. The man said he heard gunshots ring out, then realized he'd been shot.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where his condition was stabilized, police said.
• Around 10:15 p.m. a 22-year-old woman was stabbed in the 100 block of North Long Avenue during what police say they believe is a domestic-related incident.
The woman was taken to Loyola University Medical Center where she is listed in critical condition.
• Earlier, two men were sitting in a car when they were both fatally shot in Pilsen early Saturday.
• At 4:30 a.m. Saturday, a 27-year-old man was shot in the 8800 block of South Wabash Avenue.
He was taken to Mount Siani Hospital where police said his condition was good.
• On Saturday at 4:20 a.m., a 38-year-old man was eating in of his car, in the 4700 block of West Van Buren Street, when he was approached by three unknown men who fired multiple shots, said Officer Jose Estrada.
The man drove himself to Loretto Hospital where he was listed in good condition, Estrada said.
• At 12:30 a.m. in University Village, a 24-year-old man was walking in the 1200 block of South Loomis Street when an unknown man walked up and fired shots, Estrada said.
The man suffered a graze wound to his foot and walked to University of Illinois Hospital where he was listed in good condition.
Police said the man is a documented gang member.
• In Gage Park at 9:45 p.m. Friday, a 36-year-old man was walking in the 3400 block of West 52nd Street when a passing vehicle opened fire, striking the man in his chest and and elbow, Estrada said.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in serious condition.
No one is in custody, and police are investigating the shootings.
