SOUTH SHORE — Ald. Willie Cochran appeared headed to a runoff in the 20th Ward race Tuesday.

Facing four challengers in his quest for a third team, Cochran had 48 percent of the vote with 95 percent of precincts reporting.

Cochran was able to champion projects like MetroSquash and the new Hyde Park Day School facilities being built in the ward as institutions increasingly looked south of Hyde Park to do business.

Challengers had tried to overcome Cochran with calls that he was not doing enough to protect the longtime residents from being priced out of the neighborhood as new development came in.

Kevin Bailey appeared headed to second place in the race with 20 percent of the vote.
