WEST LOOP — A new summer festival focused on art will debut in the West Loop in August.

The first annual West Loop Art Fest, featuring original, unique and emerging on display and for sale, will hit Washington Street Aug. 22-23.

The festival promises to offer from "the edgy to sublime" and "reasonable to extravagant" art, plus a music stage and food from neighborhood restaurants at the outdoor festival, according to the West Loop Community Organization.

The festival will be staged on four blocks of Washington Street from Halsted to Morgan streets. The festival will be free, and a suggestion donation will be collected at the gate.

Organizers expect about 100 juried artists to be featured at the show and estimate attendance at 25,000 people in the festival's first year.

Organized by Amdur Productions and Star Events, the new art festival will be held with help from the West Loop Community Organization.

Artist applications, due by March 16, are available now. The application fee is $25 and booth fee is $350.

Artist amenities include booth sitters and an artist party Saturday night.

Other summer Near West Side festivals include The Taste of Randolph in June, Pitchfork Music Festival at Union Park in July, North Coast Music Festival at Union Park over Labor Day weekend, Aahh! Fest at Union Park in September and monthly Randolph Street Market events.

Other Chicago summer art festivals include the Millennium Art Festival on Michigan Avenue in May, the Gold Coast Art Festival in June, the Wells Street Art Festival in June and the Old Town Art Fair in June.

More than 400 neighborhood festivals are staged in Chicago each summer.
