SOUTH LOOP — A doggie day care is coming to the South Loop.

Blü Dog Play Stay Spa is expected to open April 16 at 2000 S. Wabash Ave., owner Bryan Hushon said Monday night. Hushon announced his plans at a Prairie District Neighborhood Alliance meeting.

A South Loop resident who lives in the Roosevelt Collection, Hushon said he was inspired by his own pooch while living in Germany. His new business is scheduled to open the day his Siberian husky, Tasha, turns 10 years old.

"I thought as she got older, I would take her to work with me," said Hushon, 43, a former telecommunications professional. He moved back to Chicago in 2012.

The two-level, 9,000-square-foot business will include boarding and grooming areas, as well as a small store that sells dog food and other goods. Hushon estimated the day  care could house 50-60 dogs at full capacity.

Just one other doggie day care is open in the South Loop, and Hushon hopes to distinguish his business with an expert staff and level of service including the "blübus," a custom Mercedes Benz van that transports customers' dogs. Dogs can either stay in an open area or in an individual suite with drainage system and elevated bed.
