CHICAGO — A Cook County Jail corrections officer could face up to five years in prison after being charged with having a sexual relationship with an inmate, authorities said Thursday.

Lotisha Myers, 47, was arrested Wednesday at the jail after an internal investigation determined she had "an inappropriate relationship" with an inmate, said a statement from Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart. The investigation, which began Feb. 4, found Myers "engaged in sexual misconduct" with an inmate in the jail's minimum- and medium-security prisoners, the statement said.

She is charged with custodial sexual misconduct, a class three felony. If convicted, she could face two to five years in prison. She appeared in court Thursday, and was released on bond.

Myers has worked for the Sheriff's Office since 2003.

The investigation was conducted by a unit that probes crimes at the jail and the Sheriff's Office of Professional Review, which investigates allegations against employees.
