WEST LOOP — The owners of a West Loop bar have given their beer garden a winter makeover.

Kaiser Tiger, a sausage and beer bar at 1415 W. Randolph St., opened ice curling rinks in the bar's large beer garden this week.

Co-owner Chris Latchford said the plan was born out of last year's brutal winter.

"So we thought if you can't beat the winter, then join it," Latchford said. "What a better way to spend time outside than to have a bonspiel at the curling rinks, which are located in our beer garden."

Rink rental is $15 for 30 minutes of play. Ice rink availability is weather dependent, Latchford said.

Kaiser Tiger will also serve hot cider and whiskey to warm enthusiastic curlers. Patrons can cook their own bacon s'mores at the bar's outdoor fire pit, too.

Kaiser Tiger opened in May.
