BRIDGEPORT — A new UPS store has opened on Halsted Street to handle all of the neighborhood's shipping needs.

"Bridgeport is a postal desert," explained Carlos Maxwell, who opened the new store at 3231 S. Halsted St. "The closest post offices are 19th and Ashland and 43rd and Halsted."

The store, which opened on Saturday, offers a wide range of services, including shipping and receiving, 24-hour mailbox access, digital printing and office and packing supply sales.

Maxwell said he chose to open in Bridgeport because of the neighborhood's manufacturing presence, heavy traffic on Halsted Street and nearby 31st Street and high concentration of homes.

"Hopefully we'll be something the community can use," he said.

The UPS Store, 3231 S. Halsted St., is open 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
