WEST LOOP — In honor of the French custom, the Chicago French Market will celebrate a belated Epiphany with free Three Kings Cake Saturday.

The crusty round cakes, called galette in France, will be served from noon-1 p.m. Saturday at the market, 131 N. Clinton St.

Baking a cake with a bean or trinket hidden inside to be served on Epiphany is a time-honored tradition in France. The person whose slice of cake contains a small bean will be given the cake's crown and be named king or queen for a day at the market.

Epiphany, also called Three Kings Day, was Tuesday. The Christian holiday commemorates the visit the three wise men made to the baby Jesus, and in the Orthodox Church, the baptism of the Christ child.
