COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man who was on his way home from registering as a sex offender fondled a 4-year-old girl on a CTA bus, prosecutors said Friday.

"If the allegations are true, that's traumatizing for a child that's four years of age," Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil said during a brief bond hearing.

Judex Colon, 32, had just finished registering as a sex offender Tuesday morning when he boarded a CTA bus on the Near North Side, according to Assistant State's Attorney Sarah Karr.

When the girl and her mother got on the bus, Colon sat next to the girl and fondled her underneath her clothing, Karr said, calling the attack "brazen." The girl told her mom about the incident when they returned home.

At the time of his arrest, Colon was wearing a shirt with a reference to the Miranda warning: "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted and used against you."

Police said the child was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital after the assault, which happened about 10 a.m. in the 1600 block of West Polk Street. She was listed in good condition.

In 2008, Colon was convicted of sexual assault after he abused two girls, ages 5 and 12, while working as a ride operator at an Indiana county fair, Karr said. In one incident, Colon stopped a ride to inappropriately touch a girl, prosecutors said.

Colon was charged this week with predatory criminal sexual assault.

Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil ordered Colon held without bail, deeming him a danger to himself and society.
