WICKER PARK — Scones honed in a suburban kitchen are coming to Wicker Park.

Jessica Bloom and her chef husband, Tim Canning, owners of Lemon Tree Grocer in Downers Grove, plan to open the unambiguously named Scone City at 1632 W. Division St. in January.

The bakery will sell the quintessential teatime treat accompanied by housemade jams, citrus curds and "a few other special sides," Bloom said.

Bloom said Lemon Tree's pastry chef Laurie McNamara "has been perfecting" her scones at their west suburban gourmet grocery and restaurant.

"They have created quite a following at the local farmers market," Bloom said of McNamara's scones.

The scone menu will change with the seasons. Sweet varieties range from blueberry with Meyer lemon to cherry-almond. Savory scones will include bacon and black pepper, rosemary-ginger and Brie and honey.

HalfWit Coffee will be the beverage of choice.

James Geier of 555 Design is behind the shop's rustic-meets-modern design, which mixes raw metal with wood finishes. There will be a small seating area, but the shop is mostly for carryout, Bloom said.
