WEST ROGERS PARK — Ken Anderson knows it's odd to open a frozen treats shop in December.

"We just want to get it open," said Anderson, co-owner of Lickity Split, which is setting up its second frozen custard shop in West Rogers Park, 7000 N. Western Ave.

Three years after opening its first store in Edgewater, Lickity Split announced plans to expand west.

The new location was chosen after the building's owner showed Anderson and his partner Luke Klein the location, which previously housed a Baskin-Robbins. The duo received a $25,000 TIF grant for the store.

For fans of the original Edgewater shop, the new store will be somewhat familiar. Candy will be sold alongside the shop's star — frozen custard — and coffee.

In addition to the standard vanilla and chocolate custards, which can be ordered in several types of sundaes, concretes and malts, the two shops will also sport special flavors in December: peppermint and eggnog.

The West Rogers Park store is smaller than the first shop, so musical acts won't be able to play there like they do in the Edgewater location, Anderson said.

But Lickity Split is subleasing space in the new store to bakery Celestial Kitchens, which previously did business out of another shop it shared with several other businesses.

Anderson added he hopes this isn't the end of Lickity Split's expansion.

"We'd love to have three to five of these stores down the road," Anderson said.
