LAKEVIEW — Fahlstrom's Fresh Fish Market is slated to open this weekend with half-price specials.

The Lakeview seafood restaurant at 1258 W. Belmont Ave. is the latest project from Glenn Fahlstrom, who left his eponymous Ravenswood diner in 2012.

Fahlstrom's will focus on family-friendly seafood with daily chalkboard specials and "seaplates," smaller portions of fish paired with two sides. There also will be a fish market where customers can take home fresh cuts daily.

"Our prices will be a lot better than a Mariano's or Whole Foods because I'm just moving more product," Fahlstrom said in July. "I'll sell fish in the retail market. I'll sell fish in the restaurant. I'll be able to offer better pricing."

Fahlstrom said the eatery is on target for a soft opening on Friday, when all food except that from the fish market will be half-priced. The same half-priced deal will apply Saturday. Fahlstrom's will be closed Sunday, and there'll be a grand opening Monday.

The restaurant's hours will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekends.

"How we do our cooking is very simple — not a lot of sauces, not a lot of seasoning. We cook in olive oil and butter," Fahlstrom said, adding that each entree will come with a potato and vegetable.

"I'm not into this architecture on plates nowadays, where [chefs] build the food into this and that. I'm really old-school," Fahlstrom said. "Just like there's differences between a great steak, rib-eye, lamb chop, pork chop — there's different flavors with a salmon, a tilapia, a perch, pike."

For folks who aren't quite as into seafood, there will be a full diner menu with burgers, all-day breakfast, Fahlstrom's famed cereal wall, BLTs and salads.
