NEAR WEST SIDE — A University of Illinois at Chicago student was the victim of a strong-arm robbery near the West Loop Target Monday afternoon, university police said.

At about 12:20 p.m. Monday, the female student was walking when an unknown male started following her. She entered the Target store, 1101 W. Jackson Blvd., in an attempt to elude the man.

After exiting the store on Jackson Boulevard, the victim was approached by the offender, who pushed her to the ground. The man stole her iPhone before fleeing west through an alley, according to university police.

The victim left the scene and later called the police. The phone was recovered from a trash can near the scene, police said.

The offender remains at large. He was described as a black male, 6-foot-1 to 6-foot-3 in height, with a muscular build, wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with a logo and black sweatpants.

The UIC Police/Chicago Police Department Joint Robbery Task Force are conducting the follow-up investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call UIC Police at 312-996-2830.
