NEAR WEST SIDE — Halloween comes early with two family-friendly events at Skinner Park this weekend.

Dogtoberfest, a Halloween hunt for dogs and their families, is scheduled from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Loomis Street Gardens, 1399 W. Monroe St.

At Dogtoberfest, pups of all sizes will hunt for plastic Halloween eggs filled with doggie treats and prizes. Dogs must be leashed and participants are asked to bring their own basket or bag to store goodies from the treat hunt.

On Saturday, the 10th annual Skinner Park Pumpkinpalooza will welcome kids from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at 1331 W. Monroe St. The event features a pumpkin patch, costume contest, Halloween games, petting zoo, inflatables, candy and more.

At 10 a.m., a jazz concert will be staged at the park, and at 11 a.m. a children's concert will be led by singer-songwriter Amy Lowe.

All children 12 and under will go home with a free pumpkin, according to organizers.
