NORTH CENTER — Did you know the City of Chicago spends $38 million annually on landfill fees?

All those apple cores, banana peels and egg shells add up, which is one reason the Northcenter Neighborhood Association is encouraging people to consider composting.

Learn how to get started or share your expertise at NNA's first-ever composting workshop, 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday at Epiphany United Church of Christ, basement, 2008 W. Bradley Pl.

Those interested in worm composting should bring a plastic bin with a lid — NNA will provide everything else you need. Bins can be any size, but a minimum of 2 feet-by-2 feet-by-8 inches is recommended for a two-person household.

The event is free and open to all, but registration is requested.
