DOWNTOWN — Cancer Survivors' Garden in Grant Park will close Friday for a months-long rehabilitation process that will include repainting and repairing the naturescape's decorative fixtures.

The park's steel arch and plaza will be repaired, damaged sections of concrete will be repaired and missing balustrades and caps will be replaced on the park's limestone wall.

The park will reopen in conjunction with the late fall opening planned for Maggie Daley Park, which has been under construction since 2012.

In the spring, additional plantings will be added to the garden and to Maggie Daley Park nearby.

Built in 1996, the park's design includes three "rooms" meant to represent acceptance, support and celebration, the three stages of healing.
