MUSEUM CAMPUS — The Adler Planetarium will host an all new, one-night-only Halloween event Thursday, Oct. 30 that uses its 360-degree Grainger Sky Theater for nefariously spooky purposes.
"Curse of the Blood Moon" will take over the planetarium at 1300 S. Lake Shore Dr. from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., combining special effects, live theater and digital visualizations that recount "historic cosmic events that unnerved ancient civilizations and resulted in fatal outcomes," according to an announcement from Adler.
"Our theaters are a rare resource for most institutions, allowing us to branch out in our storytelling and creativity," said Emily Hanna, coordinator of special projects and public programs at the planetarium. "We have a great team assembled to bring some haunting, galactic chills."
In addition to the one-night-only horror show, the planetarium will host Halloween standbys like its scream photo booth, a flashlight tour of the Adler in the dark, and a slime science demonstration about how different substances react to the vacuum of space.
Tickets cost $10 for non-members and $8 for planetarium members, and the evening's material is not recommended for kids under 12. Snacks, drinks and alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase at the event.
