WEST LOOP — Twin sisters living in the West Loop are asking the community for help as they plan a meal for hundreds of elderly residents in need later this month.

Twins Anita Ivory, an assistant principal at Yates Elementary School in Logan Square, and Danita Ivory, a Cook County public defender, are planning to serve lunch to 400 low-income elderly residents living at the Patrick Sullivan apartments on the Near West Side.

In honor of Make A Difference Day on Oct. 25, the 38-year-old sisters, both residents of the West Loop, have planned a service project every year for the past 18 years.

The first year they provided teddy bears for sick kids at the old Cook County Hospital, and another year they prepared and delivered hot meals for the homeless living on Lower Wacker Drive. Last year, the twins collected 1,000 pairs of new shoes for North Lawndale kids in need.

This year, the identical twins wanted to serve people living in their neighborhood. Danita Ivory passes the Sullivan apartments, a Chicago Housing Authority-affiliated property at 1633 W. Madison St., while walking to the bus to go to work.

The sisters plan to serve a lunch of chicken, mostaccioli, Puerto Rican rice, garden salad and dessert to more than 400 seniors on Oct. 25.

"We want to make it a really nice day," Anita Ivory said. "This is really for the seniors."

The sisters, 38, have enlisted the help of friends and family to pull the meal off, but they are still looking for help from the community in the form of donated food items.

The sisters most need:

• Chicken

• Desserts (cookies, brownies, cakes)

• Canned black beans

• Rice

Those interested in donating food items and businesses interested in donating or serving as a drop-off locations can contact Danita Ivory at danitaivory@yahoo.com.
