GOLD COAST — The historic Germania Club Building at 108 W. Germania Place has been sold for $7.89 million, only the third sale in the building's history.

The building was designed in 1888 by German-American architectural firm Addison & Fielder and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Designated a Chicago landmark in 2011, the Germania Club Building is a 40,634-square-foot mixed-use structure. It's currently fully leased, with retail tenants that include a Starbucks and Lincoln Park Preparatory.

The upper floors are rented out as an event venue that is a popular wedding destination, nicknamed Germania Place. The venue is known for its ornate Victorian architecture, original chandeliers, huge arched-windows and inset gold domes.

"This is only the third time this property has come to market in its storied history, making it a very unique opportunity," Bill Baumann, whose brokerage firm Kiser Group facilitated the sale, said in a release.

The sale represented "an amazing chance to purchase ... a piece of Chicago history," Baumann said. "Space like this simply isn’t designed anymore."
