EDGEWATER — The former home of dive bar Wild Rover got a thorough makeover for its next incarnation: Barrelman Tavern.

The new bar, which general manager Dan Lenart assures residents will be all about whiskey and sports, could open as soon as this weekend.

Lenart, the former manager of Mad River Bar and Grille in Lakeview, said he's waiting on one last inspection by a plumber.

The storefront at 6001 N. Paulina Ave. was renovated "from top to bottom — every board, every screw."

Gone is the street-facing, wood-panel facade, which has been replaced with a garage-door-like retractable window.

Outside, Barrelman is flying the flags of Northwestern University's Wildcats, the Bears and Blackhawks.

The tavern is owned by Blake Itagaki, who also runs Tai's til 4 in Lakeview. He's also been involved with Lakeview's Newport Bar and Grill and Flagship.

Check Barrelman's Facebook page for updates on the opening date.
