SOUTH LOOP — Niu B Sushi & Noodles, the new South Loop sister restaurant of Niu Japanese Fusion Lounge in Streeterville, will celebrate its grand opening Thursday with a private gala and officially open to the public Friday.

The new restaurant at 888 S. Michigan Ave. features much of the same sushi popularized by its restaurant at 332 E. Illinois St., but includes an added emphasis on ramen-based dishes, a spokeswoman said.

Since the restaurant had its soft opening in June, the team has been "working out the kinks, trying a couple different things," Niu B publicist Samantha Crafton said, and has since "nailed down" the final menu.

Highlights include grilled robata skewers of bone-in lamb chop, chicken satay, jumbo shrimp or bacon-wrapped scallops, signature sushi and maki, and appetizers like oyster and sea urchin shooters.

The decor is inspired by the Izakaya Bars of Tokyo in the 1930s and features floor-to-ceiling windows, tufted leather couches and bamboo chairs with an open kitchen behind and a six-seat sushi bar.

Aligned with that theme is the cocktail list, which features sake flights and such drinks as the Osaka Mule with lemongrass-infused Grey Goose and tarragon syrup and the Old Fashioned of the East made with 12-year-old Yamazaki whiskey.

The restaurant is open from 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m.-11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday.
