Northwest Side Shootings Leave 3 Dead; At Least 15 Others Shot Citywide

CHICAGO — Three people, including two 16-year-old boys and a 21-year-old man, were fatally shot, and at least 15 others were wounded in shootings across the city since 5 p.m. Saturday.

Police found a boy, 16, shot to death in Humboldt Park early Sunday.

Earlier around 11:45 p.m., a boy, 16, and a man, 21, were killed and a boy, 18, survived in a Logan Square shooting.

In other shootings:

• Most recently, a man, 23, is in good condition after being shot in Logan Square overnight.

• Around 2 a.m., four people were shot in the 7900 block of South Merrill Avenue in South Shore, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

The men, ages 15, 20, 27 and 30, were standing on the sidewalk when three people approached them on foot and opened fire, Greer said.

The 15-year-old sustained a graze wound in his leg and transported himself to South Shore Hospital, where he is in good condition. The 20-year-old also transported himself to South Shore Hospital, where he is in stable condition after being shot in his side.

The 27-year-old suffered from a gunshot wound in his hand. He initially refused medical attention, but later transported himself to South Shore Hospital, while the 30-year-old was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital by ambulance after being shot in his arm and his toe. He is in stable condition.

No one is in custody for this shooting,  police said.

• Ten minutes earlier, a man was shot in Auburn Gresham. 

The man, 24, was outside in the 8700 block of South Union Avenue when someone approached on foot and fired multiple shots, striking him in both of his legs and his buttocks, Greer said.

He was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he is in stable condition, Greer said.

• Around 12:50 a.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in his leg in the 6300 block of South Albany Avenue in Marquette Park.

The man was walking when he heard shots and felt pain, Greer said. He is in stable condition after being transported to Christ.

• Late Saturday around 11:10 p.m., a boy was shot in Washington Park.

The boy, 16, was walking in the 5100 block of South Wabash Avenue when he was struck by shots from a passing light-colored car, Greer said. 

The shooter fled the scene going southbound, and the boy was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

No one is in custody for this shooting.

• Ten minutes earlier, two women were shot on the Near West side.

The women, ages 41 and 45, were at an outdoor party in the 2400 block of West Adams Street when they heard shots and felt pain, Greer said.

The 41-year-old sustained a gunshot wound in her lower back, and took herself to Stroger Hospital, where she is in stable condition. The 45-year-old also transported herself to Stroger Hospital, where she is in good condition after being shot in her leg.

• Fifteen minutes earlier a 13-year-old boy was left wounded in a shooting in North Lawndale.

The incident occurred in the 1300 block of South Avers Avenue, police said.

The boy and his brother were involved in a physical fight when three people approached them and one opened fire, striking the boy in his arm. 

He took himself to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he is in stable condition, Greer said.

• Around 9 p.m., an 18-year-old boy was shot and wounded in Bronzeville.

The boy was walking in the 3700 block of South Wabash Avenue when a light-colored car pulled up and someone from within the car opened fire, striking him in his buttocks, Greer said.

He is in good condition after being taken to Stroger Hospital, police said.

• A 17-year-old boy was shot around 5:10 p.m. in Humboldt Park.

A 16-year-old girl and a 25-year-old man were shot and killed and eight others were wounded from Friday evening to Saturday morning.
