LINCOLN PARK — Lincoln Park's Ja' Grill closed this week after seven years in business.

The owner of the restaurant is preparing to open a new location in Hyde Park, but the closing of the Lincoln Park location was unexpected.

The Jamaican restaurant at 1008 W. Armitage Ave., was known for dishes such as jerk chicken, curry goat, red snapper and plantains.

The restaurant, which specialized in Jamaican cuisine, included a downstairs lounge with DJs spinning Jamaican and Caribbean music.

Ja' Grill is in the process of moving into the new Harper Court Development, which is expected to open in two weeks. In February, Ja Grill owner Tony Coates said about a third of his Lincoln Park customers came from the South Side.

Coates posted a message on Facebook Sunday announcing the closing and move to Hyde Park:

"Ja' Grill management and staff would like to thank all of our loyal patrons for making our experience on Armitage Street wonderful. To show our thanks we are opening our new location in Hyde Park (The new Harper Court Development on 53rd and Harper Avenue) in the very very near future.  We will continue to offer the same authentic Jamaican cuisine with some new surprises..."

Coates declined to comment on the closing of the Lincoln Park location.
