WEST LOOP — After being delayed a week, Green City Market's farmers market at Fulton Market and Halsted Street will officially open Saturday.

The market was supposed to open last Saturday morning, but was delayed a week due to staffing issues, according to Green City's associate director Mark Psilos.

The chef-driven market will run from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays through October and will feature 20 vendors, including Mint Creek Farm, Seedling Shop, Nordic Creamery, and Iron Creek Farm, among others.

In part supported by the city's Fulton/Randolph District plan, Green City's market may only be temporary, as the group's lease on the parking lot at Fulton and Halsted Street expires in October.

On July 25, Ald. Walter Burnett Jr. (27th) told DNAinfo Chicago he was pushing for a farmers market at Randolph Street and Racine Avenue — a location supported by West Loop neighborhood group Randolph/Fulton Market Association.

Days later, Burnett said that location would not be an option, as the CTA uses the lot on a full-time basis.

Roger Romanelli, the association's executive director, said his group will continue to search for a farmers market option along Randolph Street.

"What’s great about America is there’s always room for competition," Romanelli said Tuesday. "I’ll just leave it at that. We’re looking forward to making the best case for the location in the community."
