NEAR WEST SIDE — Sheridan Park will host its annual boxing match, a free outdoor show that will also serve as a celebration for Sheridan Park Coach Tony Martinez, now in his 20th year of coaching.

Martinez, a retired police officer and lifelong resident of Little Italy, heads up the boxing program at Sheridan Park and was also a Golden Gloves champion in 1971.

Admission for Thursday's event at Sheridan Park, 910 S. Aberdeen St., is free, though donations are welcome. The event starts at 7 p.m. and will also feature a silent auction from local businesses. All proceeds form the event will go toward the park's youth boxing program to purchase equipment and sponsor children within the program.
