STREETERVILLE — Doughnut connoisseurs in the know can get a unique treat at the new Do-Rite Donuts location that opened Friday at 233 E. Erie St.

The city's second Do-Rite location will feature the usual lineup of maple bacon crullers and Valrhona chocolate glazed featured the flagship at 50 W. Randolph St. breakfast and lunch spot, plus a major new addition: various fried chicken sandwiches on the new lunch menu.

A spokesman told DNAinfo Chicago that there's a special menu highlight you have to know about to order: "a spicy fried chicken sandwich served on a glazed doughnut," what the team is calling a "whisper" item.

The Streeterville location is the Chicago-based company's first foray into sandwiches, and the secret fried chicken-and-doughnut sandwich is the first chance customers will have had to try the restaurant's two specialties together.

Do-Rite on Erie Street will only have a few months of exclusivity with the Northwestern Hospital crowd. On Oct. 13, Stan's Donuts will open its second location in the city a few doors down, at 259 E. Erie St.

Stan's menu will serve "all the same varieties" as its Wicker Park shop, the supervisor there said last week.

Patio seating is available on the unused terrace of the 233 E. Erie St. building, with more seats at the counter inside.

Dark Matter Coffee and a full menu of espresso and cappuccino drinks will also be available at Do-Rite. At Stan's down the street, Intelligentsia is the local brew of choice.
