MCKINLEY PARK — A new Dollar Tree discount store will open this fall near the busy Archer and Damen avenue intersection.

The stores sell seasonal items, party supplies, food and beverage, and health and beauty items.

"This store is actually 10,000 square feet. It's what we like to call our sweet spot. We open stores larger than that and smaller than that, but this is our sweet spot," said Shelly Davis, a company spokeswoman.

It's expected to open this October.

In a deal announced this week, Dollar Tree acquired rival Family Dollar for $8.5 billion in a move the Wall Street Journal called a "battle for poor shoppers."

"Customers are under pressure," company CEO Bob Sasser told The Wall Street Journal. "Unfortunately, that's one reason why the space continues to grow."

The McKinley Park store, located at 3400 S. Archer Ave., will hire about 12 to 15 part-time workers, plus a couple full-time managers.

Anyone interested in applying for jobs is encouraged to visit the career page on the company's official website.
