CHICAGO — Four children, all under the age of 10, were taken to the hospital after the car they were riding in crashed into the back of a horse-drawn carriage late Monday.

The car was driving eastbound on Grand Avenue when it struck the carriage near Des Plaines Street in the West Loop around 10:56 p.m., said Officer Ron Gaines, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

The 28-year-old woman driving the carriage was taken to Northwestern Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She was treated and released, Gaines said.

Four children — a 1-year-old boy, a 4-year-old boy, a 10-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl — also were taken to Northwestern, where they were treated and released, Gaines said.

No charges or tickets were issued, Gaines said.
