CHICAGO — At least 40 people have been shot across the city, seven fatally, since the start of the holiday weekend on Thursday night, police said.
In the most recent shooting, a 25-year-old man was shot by two men while walking on the sidewalk in the 9600 block of South Vincennes Avenue around 4:45 a.m., said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.
He was in stable condition after being transported to Christ Hospital, Estrada said.
Earlier, around 3 a.m., two men in their 20s were shot in Lakeview, police said.
And a few hours before that, a 20-year-old identified as Kenzon A. Lamb was shot in Uptown, authorities said.
In other shootings:
• Around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, a 25-year-old was riding his bicycle in the 10400 block of South Normal Avenue when a silver car drove by and someone inside fired shots, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.
The man was shot in in his head and his shoulder, police said. Identified as Anthony Hobson of the 10500 Block of South Harvey Avenue, the man was transferred to Roseland Community Hospital where he died at 12:07 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Hobson was a documented gang member, police said. No one is in custody for the shooting.
• About 10 minutes earlier, a 16-year-old boy and 20-year-old man were standing on the sidewalk near 59th Street and Honore Street when they heard shots and felt pain, Estrada said.
The 16-year-old was shot in his leg and arm and the 20-year-old was shot in his leg. Both men were taken to Holy Cross Hospital where they were in stable condition, Estrada said.
• Around the same time a domestic-related shooting occurred in the 100 block of North La Crosse Avenue, Estrada said. A 19-year-old woman was standing on the sidewalk when her ex-boyfriend fired shots, striking her in both of her legs, Estrada said.
She was in stable condition after being transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, Estrada said.
• At 7:30 p.m., police responded to a call of shots fired in the 6500 block of South Seeley Avenue and found an 18-year-old, identified as Shaquille Ross, unresponsive, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.
He had been shot multiple times in his torso and his neck, police said. He was transported to Christ Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:09 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.
Two people were killed on Saturday: Deandre Brown, 33, was fatally shot on the South Side and a 30-year-old man died after being shot in a Walgreens parking lot in Clearing.
The bloodshed from Saturday into Sunday added to an already violent weekend in Chicago.
From Friday night into Saturday, at least 20 people were shot. That followed a Thursday night when eight people were shot, one fatally.
Also over the weekend police shot a total of five people across the city.
