HYDE PARK — Hyde Parkers will march down 53rd Street on Friday for the 23rd annual 4th on 53rd parade.

The parade is an annual tradition that allows anyone to join local politicians and community groups in a march down the 53rd Street.

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle will again serve as grand marshal — again decked out like the Statue of Liberty.

Preckwinkle will be joined by state Rep. Barbara Flynn Currie (D-Chicago) as Uncle Sam, Ald. Leslie Hairston (5th) as Miss Liberty and Ald. Will Burns (4th) as a Union soldier.

Anyone is welcome to join Preckwinkle, the Kenwood Academy and King College Prep marching bands and others in the parade.

The events start with bike decorating at 10 a.m. in the parking lot behind Hyde Park Bank, 1525 E. 53rd St.

The parade leaves the parking lot at 11 a.m. and takes Lake Park Avenue south to 55th Street. Marchers will go east on 55th to Hyde Park Avenue, before turning north. From Hyde Park Boulevard, the parade will turn west down 53rd Street and end at Nichols Park.

At the park, the Gilbert and Sullivan Company will lead a sing along of patriot songs. Local martial arts, soccer and dance groups will give demonstrations and the Murray Language Academy parent teacher organization will provide refreshments.
