WEST LOOP — A longtime pork rib company is moving and has confirmed the sale of its parking lot to Sterling Bay, the same developer overseeing Google's move to the West Loop just several blocks east.
Developer Sterling Bay bought the 10,000-square-foot parking lot connected to Wichita Packing Co., a pork rib distributor about to move from its location at 1315 W. Fulton Market.
The developer is in the process of renovating 1000 W. Fulton Market, a former cold-storage warehouse where Google will set up its future Chicago headquarters. It has also acquired several properties in the area, including Harpo Studios.
Mike Pierce, an employee at Wichita, confirmed the sale of the parking lot to Sterling Bay. The rib distributor, which started in 1963, has been at its current Fulton Market location for more than 20 years, according to Pierce. Although the company owns the parking lot, it actually leases space for operations in the building next door.
The company plans to relocate to 345 N. Oakley Blvd., formerly U.S. Foods Inc. Pierce said the move was prompted by a need for more space.
A representative from Sterling Bay did not return requests for comment.
