WEST LOOP — Chicagoans looking for a good amaro need look no farther then their own backyard, thanks to the West Loop's CH Distillery, which is now producing the herbal Italian liqueur.

Co-owner Tremaine Atkinson said CH Distillery will be the first spot in the city to make amaro.

The bar put its own spin on the traditionally bitter drink, starting with a base of CH Rum, then adding gentian root and grapefruit peel from Lakeview's Rare Tea Cellar in addition to locally produced cocoa and honey.

Those looking to sample CH's amaro can try the bar's Roman Holiday cocktail (CH Amaro, CH Orange Curaçao, CH London Dry Gin, lime, Angostura and orange bitters). Bottles can be purchased at CH Distillery, 564 W. St., where the liqueur is available for $35.
