CHINATOWN — A new tea shop aims to bring fresh and flavorful tea drinks to Chinatown Square visitors.

"It is our dream to introduce the brand to consumers all around the world, as well as creating a more refined bubble tea culture," Kung Fu Tea says on its official Facebook page.

The shop, located at 2126 S. Archer Ave. on the second floor of the Chinatown Square development, held a grand opening ceremony on Friday.

Kung Fu will focus on Taiwanese-style bubble milk teas — served hot or cold - as well as coffee drinks, slushes and punches. The menu is available here.

A small bakery counter is packed with Chinese style cakes and other baked goods.

Made with fresh ingredients, many of the drinks are rigorously shaken in a machine before getting sent through a separate machine topping them with leak-proof soft plastic caps.

Service is expected to be quick at the counter but Kung Fu Tea wants it guests to linger in the lounge area or head to the sun-drenched patio, a rarity for food and drink businesses in Chinatown.

The Chinatown location is the New York-based chain's first store in Chicago. A second location in Evanston is expected to open later this summer.
