PILSEN — An empty lot across from Orozco Elementary will soon be turned into affordable housing units by Pilsen developer The Resurrection Project.

The four-story project, which will be built along the empty lot at 17th Street and Damen Avenue, will have 45 units and carry a price tag of $15.8 million. Designed by West Town-based firm DesignBridge Ltd., each apartment will have energy-efficient appliances, with laundry and a community room on the first floor.

Resurrection Project also received a $25,000 initiation loan for the project from LISC Chicago.

According to Resurrection Project spokeswoman Diana Pando, the group chose the property for its proximity to Orozco, 1940 W. 18th St., and public transportation.

"We are transforming an eyesore into a community asset," Pando said via email.

Work on the project is scheduled to begin early in 2015.
