BRIDGEPORT — A neighborhood hot dog joint has gone out of business.

All that remains inside Zebra's Gourmet Hot Dogs, 744 W. 35th St., is a Coke machine and a couple of mop buckets.

The 35th Street location was the second go-around for Zebra's, which first opened a few blocks away in the 3600 block of South Halsted Street in 2012 but quickly moved.

Serving the New York City Nathan's Famous brand of all-beef hot dogs along with corn fritters dusted with powdered sugar, Zebra's opted for an alternative to the classic Chicago dog stand by serving items like the Bronx Reuben (Swiss cheese, sweet kraut and dressing), the Denver (sauteed mushrooms, grated Swiss and chopped green onions), and the Jersey City (garlic-sauteed spinach, bacon and mozzarella).

The reason for the abrupt closing is unclear. Attempts the reach the business owner and building landlords were unsuccessful.
