CHICAGO — A 28-year-old woman fell and broke her ankle Sunday when she sprinted from the Blue Line chasing a man who stole her phone, prosecutors said.

The woman had just taken out her cell phone as the train pulled into the Western-O'Hare station early Sunday morning, prosecutors said.

Eric Carney, 22, allegedly hopped on the train, grabbed the woman's Samsung Galaxy 3, and ran off the train before its doors closed.

Carney, of the 4800 block of South Chicago Beach Drive, was charged with felony robbery and ordered held on $25,000 bail by a Cook County judge Thursday.

Police had asked for help in finding the culprit and provided photos of a suspect taken from CTA surveillance video. Carney was tracked down Tuesday after an anonymous tip.

About 6:10 a.m. Sunday, Carney also robbed a 28-year-old woman on a Blue Line train in the 1900 block of North Western Avenue, police said.
